Status

A recent review by Spirin et al. (2025) suggested that Protohydnum album and P. pululahuanum were distinct species and that P. pululahuanum was restricted to South America. The current name for the North American species is Protohydnum album.

Description

On decayed hardwood. Fruiting body: White with yellow to brown stains in age; brain-like masses may cover entire logs (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
