A recently fledged Common Nighthawk in Cumberland, Maryland (7/29/2013). The western Maryland towns of Cumberland and Frostburg are nesting strongholds of Common Nighthawk in the state. We suspect that the moth factory that is Green Ridge SF and Allegany County in general provide a sufficient source for continued nesting success. Overuse of pesticides and ultra-efficient farming techniques are likely primary a factor in the species' drastic decline elsewhere in the state.
