MBP updated this page from Auricularia americana to Auricularia species. Several species of Auricularia occur in continental United States that differ microscopically. There are no easily accessed scientific references for all of the U.S. species. A. auricula and A. auricula-judae are European species; many of the popular references still use these names.

Description

"This jelly fungus is often confused with Exidia recisa. The distinctive smooth upper surface, often with a whitish bloom, and spores will readily separate them" (L. Biechele, pers. comm.).
