Status

Historically, this species was referred to as Gliophorus irrigatus in Maryland. Recent phylogenetic data suggests that Gliophorus irrigatus is restricted to Europe. The North American species have been split into several taxa. Of these, two are likely to occur in Maryland: Gliophorus fumosus and Gliophorus parafumosus (Harries et al., 2026).

Description

Gliophorus fumosus has a smooth, gray, viscid cap with a straight margin. Gliophorus parafumosus has a ridged, gray, viscid cap with an inrolled margin (Harries et al., 2026).
