Heteropogon macerinus is an eastern representative of a genus that reaches its greatest diversity in the west and southwest. This late summer-fall species apparently favors forest edges, where it perches on branch tips at roughly eye level. It has an interesting courtship flight display (Norm Lavers' robber fly site).
