One of the relatively few fall Andrena species. As the name implies, it is a lover of asters, and probably only uses Aster pollen to feed its young. (S. Droege, pers. comm.)

A male Andrena asteris collected in Prince George's Co., Maryland (6/7/2013). Sam Droege notes that this species is a specialist of aster pollen in the fall.
