Selys's Sundragon (Helocordulia selysii) is a rare early-season corduliid found near small wooded streams across much of the southeastern U.S. Maryland is near the northern limit of the species' range. Selys's Sundragon flies in April in Maryland, and is probably finished by the middle of May. In Maryland, the species is known from Caroline County on the Eastern Shore, and from four coastal plain counties on the western shore. It is considered threatened in Maryland, and has been assigned a rank of S2 (state rare).
