Description

Yellow Trout Lily plants are strongly colonial. The leaves usually start out dark green and become mottled with brown or purple; the resemblance of this pattern to the mottling of a trout gave rise to the common name. Petals and sepals are strongly curved backwards. One-leaved nonflowering plants are common.

Where To Find

Trout lilies are typically found in well-drained flood plain forests and rich, mesic slope forests (J. Hill/MNPS).
