Liatris scariosa, the savanna blazing star, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Liatris, native to the US states of Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.[3] It is fire-adapted, and the plant's seeds germinate only if they detect chemicals produced from burning wood.[4] It is a perennial herb that grows in dry woods and clearings.[5] The species epithet scariosa means shriveled in scientific Latin.[6]
